Practical information for the seminar speakers

We are very pleased to welcome you in Stavanger! Please find below miscellaneous information which should help to make your travel as smooth as possible. Remember please to keep all the receipts for the travel expenses and also your boarding passes for the purposes of the reimbursement process.

Location of the seminar venue

Campus of the University of Stavanger is located about 5 km south from the Stavanger city center and about 10 km north from the Stavanger airport. The seminar is most often taking place in the meeting room of the Department of Mathematics and Physics, i.e., room number E-541 in the 5th floor of the Kjølv Egeland building. The easiest way how to get to the room is to take the elevator near the western entrance to Kjølv Egeland building. See the campus map (pdf) or this interactive map.

Your hotel may be located at the campus (Ydalir hotel) or in the city center. You might come to Stavanger by plane to "Sola flyplass" or by train (the main train station is located in the city center). Find below suggestions how to travel between these locations.

From the airport to the city center

The city center can be reached from the airport by flybussen. The bus goes most often every 15 minutes and the ride to the city center takes about 30 minutes. The ticket can be bought from the bus driver (credit cards are accepted) or online.

From the airport to the campus

Also the campus can be reached from the airport by flybussen (see above, the ride to the campus is a bit shorter, about 15 minutes), but only every second bus goes through the university (marked “via UiS”). The nearest stop to the campus hotel is "Prof. Olaf Hanssens vei", the nearest stop to the Department of Mathematics and Physics is "UiS vest".

Unfortunately, flybussen stops going through the campus at about 19:00. If you are arriving to Stavanger airport after this time, there are following options what to do:
  • Take Flybussen to the city center (see above), get out at the stop Stavanger hpl.12 (see the map of the bus stops in the city center) and then take the Kolumbus company bus from the city center to the university as described below. The trip from the airport to the university through the city center takes 45-60 minutes depending on the bus connection.
  • Find the quickest bus connection at kolumbus.no (unfortunately, if you combine the buses of Flybussen company and Kolumbus company, you have to have two different tickets, see below how to buy tickets for the Kolumbus company buses).
  • Get out of Flybussen at the stop Granneskrossen sør, it's then about 1.5 km walk uphill to the Ydalir hotel.
  • A taxi drive can be covered in justified cases (if you come late in the evening etc.)

From the campus to the city center

The buses of the Kolumbus company number 6 and X60 can be used, the ride takes about 15 minutes. There are several bus stops at the campus, the nearest one from the campus hotel is "UiS – ved Kjell Arholms hus". The tickets can be bought through a mobile application, in a wending machine (there is one near the stop "Uis øst" at the campus and in “Byterminalen” in the city center) or from the bus driver (but the price is 58 NOK instead of usual 38 NOK and only cash is accepted). On the way back from the city center, the bus number 6 is going from the stop “hpl. 19” (see the map of the bus stops in the city center) and bus number X60 going from “hpl. 18”. Notice also that the bus stops are on request.
