Title: Singlet Ground state Magnetism in SrTm2O4
abstract:
SrLn2O4 is a family of compounds, where the distances between the first and second neighbor magnetic rare-earth ions are very similar, making the structure geometrically frustrated. Strong single-ion anisotropy is also present. The competition between these features gives these compounds very unusual magnetic properties such as the co-existence of short and long-range magnetic order at the lowest temperatures. In this talk, we discuss the magnetism of SrTm2O4 a member of this family. This talk will introduce various experimental techniques used in understanding the magnetism of this system and discuss some key results.
