title: Particle perspectives on stringy behaviour
abstract:

I discuss ways in which one can model stringy behaviour from a particle perspective. In some respects the theory can be thought of as being asyptotically free despite the fact that i thas a very messy UV. I dsicuss how string amplitudes show the attenuation of amplitutes one associates with asymptotic safety, and how this can be understood using an effective particle theory approximation to the string theory. Motivated by this I present a class of world-line particle theories that have stringy properties in the UV despite definitely not being string theories. It turns out that these theories are related to a class of non-local infinite derivative theories inspired by string field theory.
